Great Products to Use
Flour: I have the best success with King Arthur flours. They are readily available at most grocery stores, but if you have a hard time finding it you can order it directly from the company. If you order several bags of different varieties and are worried about how long they will stay fresh, just store them in the freezer and you will be good to go for many months.
I also love Bob’s Red Mill flours and grains. They are readily available at most grocery stores. This company’s owner has a big heart: read the story about how he gave his company to all the employees!! Amazing man.
Butter: By far the best butter on the market is Kerrygold. It is a completely natural product, free from artificial colorings and flavorings. The uniquely golden color of Kerrygold butter occurs naturally as a result of beta carotene in fresh grass and gives a distinct flavor to the butter.
Another great option for butter is Land o Lakes Butter with Olive Oil. Tastes great and only has 3 ingredients: sweet cream, olive oil and salt.
The best cocoa to use by far is Ghirardelli, Premium Baking Cocoa, Natural Unsweetened Cocoa. It is a really rich cocoa and is unsweetened so you control the type of sweetener you use in your cooking.
A real life saver for me at work and restaurants is small packages of Demerara sugar. Most restaurants don’t carry raw sugar and if they do it is usually Turbinado which is better than cane sugar but Demerara is one step closer to unrefined. I go to the health food isle at my grocery store to pick these up along with other organic nuts.
